Ranier Technology to present at the Medtech Insight "In3 Medical Device Summit"
5th June 2006
CAMBRIDGE, U.K., Jun 05, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Ranier Technology Limited has announced that it will be presenting on Thursday, June 22, at 2:30 p.m. PT at Medtech Insight and Windhover Information's "In3 Medical Device Summit" Conference, June 21-23, 2006, at The Palace Hotel in San Francisco, CA.
Ranier Technology, a Cambridge UK company, is developing innovative next generation spinal implants to address unmet needs in the rapidly growing motion preservation segment of the $2 billion spinal implant market. The Company's primary current development is the CAdisc artificial lumbar disc.
The CAdisc utilizes Ranier's precision polyurethane manufacturing technology to produce a unique all polymer, viscoelastic, one piece implant. CAdisc restores disc height at the diseased level, and the viscoelastic properties of CAdisc are designed to match the physiological kinematics of the lumbar disc to confer dynamic stability to the spinal unit. In addition the elastomeric properties of the disc ensure dynamic load transfer and physiological motion between segments with the prospect consequently of reducing the risk of adjacent segment disease and facet joint degeneration.
Dr Geoffrey Andrews, CEO and founder of Ranier commented" The clinical community recognizes the importance of restoring natural disc function with an implant which offers the same dynamic stabilization provided by a healthy disc, and minimizing degeneration of discs at adjacent levels. The anatomic and viscoelastic properties of CAdisc are designed to deliver these clinical benefits"
Ranier was founded in 1995 as a polyurethane biomaterials medical device development company. Its precision polyurethane manufacture (PPM) technology and intellectual property are a broad platform for product applications in the spine. In addition to the CAdisc artificial lumbar disc, Ranier intends to develop additional motion preservation spinal implants based on PPM technology, commencing with the CAdisc-C cervical disc.
